Covid update - Sunday 28 February, 2021
Kia ora Panama Road School Whānau – a long update so prepare yourself – you’ve got this!
Schools are open for children who need to attend
Any child who can’t be supervised at home by an appropriate person, needs to be able to attend school. Panama Road School will be open this week at Alert Level 3 for these children to attend. We have robust health and safety procedures to support our staff and students to stay safe. We will place learners in learning bubbles and they will complete the distance learning that their teachers have prepared for them, in their bubbles. We have morning tea and lunch available still so you will only need to provide a water bottle for your child.
Our teachers have worked to prepare online learning, and hard copy learning packs for your child so they can continue learning at Alert Level 3. Your child’s teacher will make contact with you tomorrow morning to see which pack will best meet your needs and arrange contactless pick up.
Each class will run online hui, twice daily. A chance for learners to check in with their teacher, see their friends and start and finish their day with our school karakia. Each team of classes will present a short learning programme of around 30 minutes each day similar to a team assembly where fun learning is shared. Your teachers will be in contact to let you know when this will happen and how you can join.
We will be continuing to develop our distance learning practice as we learn together. Please continue to connect with your child’s classroom teacher to share what is working really well for you and what you need further support with.
Pacific Learning support
Our Pacific Learning support will run a Google Meet from 9.30 – 12.00 noon tomorrow morning. You can join at any time to ask any questions you need for example – what is my child’s login/password, how do we access Google Classroom, where can I pick up the learning packs? We have fluent speakers of Samoan and Tongan available to support you. You can find the link to this Google Meet on Facebook and ClassDojo or here
We would love for you to join us for our weekly PRIDE assembly which is held online. This week you will find our assemblies on our school Facebook page. We start at 8.45 am on Monday, please join us.
Be Kind to Yourselves
We understand that everyone’s home is working differently at this time. Some whānau are working from home, some whānau are caring for dependents, there are a range of family sizes and ages. Please have students complete as many of the learning activities as they are capable of. Teachers are available to assist any students requiring extra support.
If you need help with any school work, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher. All our email addresses will be updated on our website first thing tomorrow morning, or you can contact us through ClassDojo.
We can also help you to access other supports if you need them, please contact Mrs Fiebiger, our Learning Support Coordinator on 021 141 3982 . There are some excellent resources to help with your mental health on the new Getting Through Together website.
Finally, consistency and a sense of purpose for our students is vitally important. We expect all students to be up and dressed ready to attend and participate in the class sessions every day. We also expect that they will complete the wide range of learning activities that their teachers have planned for them.
Let’s go Panama Road School – he waka eke noa!
